In the current climate, the move to sustainable alternatives is in high demand. While it seems like a difficult process, it can be done in small steps.

We were joined by the Sales Director of Attic Self Storage, Ben Holmes, who discussed how the business has become an advocate of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in episode 14 - ESG in Self Storage: People-Centric Approaches to Sustainable Storage.

Branching out across London, Attic Self Storage makes storage as convenient as possible so that customers view their storage units as an extension of their home or business. Something we both agree on is our focus on people. One of Attic’s core values is their ethical contribution to their community, internally and externally. This is not just from an eco-friendly point of view but by donating to food banks, charities, etc. Last year, for example, they donated £11,000 to a food bank.

In this podcast, Ben and Lewis discuss challenging topics, such as manned vs. unmanned sites, and how to find the right people to join your team. There was an honest discussion about mental health, where Ben mentioned his podcast and Attics’ large contribution to mental health charities.

Other talking points include:

  • Discovering new locations for sites
  • Regional storage differences
  • How Attic attract such a big customer base
  • Staff motivation
  • How to get into the industry
  • The Self Storage Association (SSA UK)
