The Channel Tunnel Group

The Channel Tunnel Group (CTG) is the company that services the world-famous Eurotunnel – the transport link between the United Kingdom and the European continent. 

CTG required a workshop for both storage, and welding and fabrication duties. After considering various options, the team at CTG decided to use a modified shipping container to create a flexible and robust workshop that could be easily transported if required.

For this project, we made several modifications to a 20ft One Trip Shipping Container.

The traditional cargo doors were removed and relocated within the long side of the container, creating easy access to the entire workshop, and the open end was then infilled with a standard container panel.

Internally, we installed 3-tier shelving to the short end of the container, providing ample storage space for tools and equipment, as well as a solid and sturdy workbench for employees to work on. Next to the workbench, we added a hook rack to the wall and painted the hooks yellow to make them stand out, reducing the risk of workers bumping into them.

Cleveland Containers submitted the best quote out of the three companies that we approached to deliver this project. The workshop is of great quality, built exactly to our specification, and we had good communication from the team throughout the build.

3mm durbar flooring was used to ensure a slip-resistant and easy to clean surface was in place to keep workers safe, and 3 phase electrics were installed as per the specification of the customer, providing lighting and power sockets for the workshop.

Finally, as an additional item, we also included a steel ramp strong enough to support heavy loads entering or leaving the container. 

Overall, the modified shipping container provided CTG with a highly functional and flexible workshop solution that met their specific requirements.
